WHY I MENTOR:
An alarming number of guys walk alone.
Every male has a core-need to be affirmed, accepted, & respected.
Every man needs to know he is loved unconditionally, and that he has what it takes to do what he was meant to do.
Men need masculine validation during graduation, sexual discovery, engagement, marriage, fatherhood, promotion, pain, loss, crisis, failure, moral error, & tragedy.
If you help change a man, you impact his spouse, his kids, his grand-kids, his friends, his employees…affecting lives well into the next century.

I purposefully mentor 5-7 men weekly.  I speak with or text that many daily. Sometimes more.
I’ve journeyed, long-term, with over 200 young men since 1983.
Typically, we may meet regularly, usually weekly, for a few months or a few years, cultivating a safe space for growth. A non-judgmental, trust filled, Mentoring friendship.
Some stick around to become closest friends, often 20 to 35 years younger than me. I am a believer in multigenerational friendships. We learn from each other.
We still have contact with 65% – many since their formative high school & college years… now strong husbands, fathers, businessmen, creatives, musicians, artists, pastors, and leaders in their communities. And mentors.
Eighty five percent of the young men in My Circle are there because I invited them.
What if we never asked?

IT’S NOT ABOUT ME:
I’m an introvert.
But I’ve learned the value of nourishing relationships. Â It takes effort.
Often, when I speak, write, or podcast, guys will exclaim,
That’s exactly what I needed… it was like an arrow… it changed me…
That is indeed my honor & joy.
HOW I MENTOR:
Then: Rotary Dial Phones, Snail Mail (stamps!), Long Distance Phone Cards, Face to Face.
Now: Smart Phones, Text, IG, FB, IM, Email, Blogging, FaceTime, Face to Face.
Technology helps.
But Face to Face – The Principle of Proximity – still rocks most.
